Hibiscus and Juneteenth have a rich and intertwined history, particularly through the tradition of the red drink, also known as sorrel or hibiscus tea! The hibiscus plant, native to West Africa, was brought to the Americas during the transatlantic slave trade and became a source of comfort and a symbol of resilience for enslaved people. Juneteenth, which celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, has become a time to honor this tradition, with red drinks and other red foods symbolizing both the red blood of those enslaved and the resilience of the African American community.
The ladies of the Women's Herbal Tea Co-op in Kenya drink hibiscus tea all day long. JusTea Little Berry Hibiscus is a beautiful burst of color: pink hibiscus petals, purple berries, green lemongrass and red rooibos, with vibrant, tart notes of hibiscus and sweet berries. It is also delicious over ice. Your tea purchase directly benefits the Women's Co-op. Shelf life of two years is guaranteed!
