An "eleke" is a sacred beaded necklace worn by practitioners of Santería and other related traditions, symbolizing a spiritual connection to a specific Orisha (Yoruba for deity). These necklaces have specific color patterns and are ritually prepared and consecrated through ceremonies, and they are not merely decorative items. Wearing an eleke is believed to provide spiritual guidance, protection, and a link to the power of the Orisha it represents. It can be worn as a necklace or bracelet.

The blue and white eleke is for Yemọja - the Yoruba goddess of the ocean, motherhood, and fertility. She is the mother of all Orishas and of humanity itself. Many enslaved Yorubans and their descendants never forgot Yemoja and the other Orishas, especially in the Caribbean and Brazil. In these religious traditions, Orishas often became integrated with patron saints of Catholicism; Yemoja was and is often equated with the Virgin Mary. In her true essence, however, you will most often see her characterized as a mermaid-like Sea Goddess.
